Record #156081:

Ingeniør M.Ib Nyeboe - Industripionér i Grønlands undergrund / Karsten Secher, Jørgen Burchardt.

Title: Ingeniør M.Ib Nyeboe - Industripionér i Grønlands undergrund / Karsten Secher, Jørgen Burchardt.
Translated title: Engineer M.Ib Nyeboe - industry pioneer in Greenland's underground.
Author(s): Secher, Karsten.
Burchardt, Jørgen.
Date: 2000.
Language: Danish.
In: Grønland. (2000.), Vol. 48(6-7) (2000)
Abstract: Much travelled, dynamic Nyeboe found Greenland favourite spot, coming back year after year. Life's rule: never give up. First he ran copper mine at Josva Peninsula, SW Greenland, then graphite mine. He also was active in setting up Rasmussen's trading post in Thule. He was close friend of Knud, and let him build on his land at Hundested, where many Danes returned from Greenland would meet. He acquired 20 patents in peat burning. Copper mine had electric light 25 years before cryolite mine at Ivittuut. Article describes sea transport and loading for mine, and economics of copper. Miners were all imported, as administration did not want Inuit to lose interest in traditional livelihood - they could hunt or manage boats. Graphite mine at Amitsoq Island ran from 1914-25.
