Record #155940:

Fatty acid composition as an indicator of carnivory in Antarctic krill, Euphausia superba / G.C. Cripps, A. Atkinson.

Title: Fatty acid composition as an indicator of carnivory in Antarctic krill, Euphausia superba / G.C. Cripps, A. Atkinson.
Author(s): Cripps, G. C.
Atkinson, A.
Date: 2000.
In: Canadian Journal of Fisheries and Aquatic Sciences. (2000.), Vol. 57(3) (2000)
Abstract: Assesses use of polyunsaturated fatty acid content as potential indicator of diet in Antarctic krill, based on controlled study in which krill from waters around South Georgia were sampled and fed exclusively on locally abundant copepod Drepanopus forcipatus, resulting in significant increase in PUFA content and decrease in monounsaturated fatty acids and saturated fatty acids. Discusses probable omnivorous feeding by krill at South Georgia during nonbloom periods, and possible use of PUFA to SFA content ratios in study of other zooplankton. In special issue Selections from Proceedings of the Second International Symposium on Krill.
