Abstract: Author voyaged to Arctic with Nathorst in Antarctic in 1898 as hydrologist and geologist, made kayak tour of Bear Island, visited Falklands then rejoined Antarctic, under Otto Nordenskjöld, visited Tierra del Fuego, helped by Indian family, Graham Land and Antarctic islands. Ship was crushed by ice in January 1903. Crew struggled to Paulet Island, where they had to overwinter. Author was doing same in 3-man stone hut at Hope Bay, and set out in late September, meeting Nordenskjöld and companion near Snow Hill. Home in 1904, author served in China from 1914 as geological adviser to Agricultural Ministry.
