Experimental manipulation of the winter surface ice layer: the effects on a High Arctic soil microarthropod community / S.J. Coulson, H.P. Leinaas, R.A. Ims, G. Søvik.
Title: | Experimental manipulation of the winter surface ice layer: the effects on a High Arctic soil microarthropod community / S.J. Coulson, H.P. Leinaas, R.A. Ims, G. Søvik. |

Date: | 2000. |
In: | Ecography. (2000.), Vol. 23 (2000) |
Abstract: | Effect of patch size on tolerance of soil microarthropod population to experimentally induced thick surface ice layer was studied in Svalbard. Such ice is rare, but climate change models suggest frequency will increase. Design had two patch sizes, icing and controls. Fauna at start had 5 species of Collembola and 7 species of oribatid mite. Experimental surface layer reduced number of soil microarthropods by 50%, few from mites. |
