Abstract: Experiments on removing predators were carried out to discover effects were in southern and northern Finland (Pello) on capercaillie, black grouse, hazel grouse and willow grouse. Predators were red fox, raccoon dog, pine marten and stoat. Breeding success decreased in predator protection area in northern Finland during vole low. Despite decline in voles, grouse breeding success did not decline in predator removal area. Mean brood size was significantly higher in predator removal areas in both south and north. Impact of control on adult populations was not as evident.
