Abstract: New ion probe U-Pb zircon analyses of 12 samples of grey orthogneiss, granite and post-kinematic diorite, supported by Sm-Nd isotope geochemistry, document middle Archaean accretional history and provide new evidence about location of northern boundary. Zircon populations and inherited zircon show that magnetic accretion of new continental crust, dominated by intrusion of tonalite sheets occurred between 3050 and 3000 Ma, around and within c. 3220 Ma continental core. Metamorphic maximum was contemporary with upright, angular folds of Paakitsoq deformation phase. Relative chronology is well established, but zircons yielded indistinguishable ages of emplacement, showing that crustal growth occurred in several short-lived events.
