Abstract: In 900s and 1000s AD large parts of Scandinavia went over from Norse to Christian religion. Coastal North Norway mostly followed in 1100-1300s. Catholic Church created, through Christendom, religious basis for European universalism in Middle Ages. Article describes Muslim fringe of Christendom in Iberian Peninsula and division in northern Europe from Orthodoxy of Novgorod. North's fish became important for Catholic Friday fast. North became missionary area, debatable land for Church adherence, and target for taxation from both sides.
