Record #155578:

Geomorphological differentiation of the Tungnaárjökull marginal zone as an effect of the local morphostructure and surge-type advances (Iceland) / Leon Andrzejewski.

Title: Geomorphological differentiation of the Tungnaárjökull marginal zone as an effect of the local morphostructure and surge-type advances (Iceland) / Leon Andrzejewski.
Author(s): Andrzejewski, Leon.
Date: 2000.
Publisher: Torun: Pracownia Sztuk Plastycznych
In: Polish polar studies : the 27th International Polar Symposium. Polish Polar Research at the Turn of the 21st Century = Polish polar studies : XXVII Miȩdzynarodowe Sympozjum Polarne. Polskie badania polarne u progu XXI wieku. (2000.),
Abstract: Geomorphological and geological researrch was carried out on glacier forefield in summers of 1995, 1996 and 1997 and map was drawn. Regional variations in layout of glacial and glaciofluvial forms and in geological structure are result of dynamic variability of its snout, which is determined by volcanic morphostructure of substrate of entire western part of Vatnajölull ice cap. Maximum advance in post-glacial period was in 1880-1890. Since then, snout has gradually receded, with short phases of surging, last of which was from Oct 1994 to Aug 1995. Forms parallel to snout are not ends of phases of moving edge but complex push moraines.
