Record #155503:
An ice-dammed lake in Jökulsárgil: predictive modelling and geomorphological evidence / Fiona Tweed.
Title: | An ice-dammed lake in Jökulsárgil: predictive modelling and geomorphological evidence / Fiona Tweed. |
Author(s): | Tweed, Fiona. |
Date: | 2000. |
In: | Jökull. (2000.), Vol. 48 (2000) |
Abstract: | River was once dammed by glacier, forming lake from which major hlaups last occurred in 1930s. Most of year, river now forms tunnel. Paper discusses tunnel closure processes and ice-dammed lake formation, using models of tunnel dynamics and field data. Closure is more likely to be in winter, when flow cannot match overburden pressure. Cross-section is not that commonly used, since it is broad, low and weaker than semi-circular tunnels oftem used in models. |
Notes: | Jökull. Vol. 48 :17-28 (2000). |
