Energy expenditure of free-living reindeer estimated by the doubly labelled water method / Geir Gotaas, Eric Milne, Paul Haggarty, Nicholas J.C. Tyler.

Title: Energy expenditure of free-living reindeer estimated by the doubly labelled water method / Geir Gotaas, Eric Milne, Paul Haggarty, Nicholas J.C. Tyler.
Author(s): Gotaas, Geir.
Milne, Eric.
Haggarty, Paul.
Tyler, Nicholas J. C.
Date: 2000.
In: Rangifer. (2000.), Vol. 20(4) (2000)
Abstract: Three male reindeer 22 months old in Finnmark on natural pasture in winter were studied. Concentrations of ²H and ¹⁸O were measured in water from faeces at periods after injection of isotopes. Calculated rates of water flux and CO₂ production were found, allowing for losses of hydrogen in faecal solids and in methane from rumen. Comparison with control group shows probable effect of exercise.
