Record #155452:

Behaviour of subglacial sediment and basal ice in a cold glacier / Sean J. Fitzsimons, R.D. (Reginald D.) Lorrain, Marcus J. Vandergoes.

Title: Behaviour of subglacial sediment and basal ice in a cold glacier / Sean J. Fitzsimons, R.D. (Reginald D.) Lorrain, Marcus J. Vandergoes.
Author(s): Fitzsimons, Sean J.
Lorrain, R. D.
Vandergoes, Marcus J.
Date: 2000.
Publisher: London: Geological Society
In: Deformation of glacial materials. (2000.),
Abstract: Measurements made in tunnel into bed of Suess Glacier, Taylor Valley, Antarctica over two years of ice velocity, taken with glaciotectonic structures, show distinct strain concentration, sliding interface and thin shear zones of planes within basal ice. Highest strain rates occur in amber ice. Suggests shear strength is controlled by ice chemistry and debris concentration.
Notes:
