Record #155451:
Continuity comes first: recent progress in understanding subglacial deformation / Richard B. Alley.
Title: | Continuity comes first: recent progress in understanding subglacial deformation / Richard B. Alley. |
Author(s): | Alley, Richard B. |
Date: | 2000. |
Publisher: | London: Geological Society |
In: | Deformation of glacial materials. (2000.), |
Abstract: | Reviews hypotheses built on data available and discusses their importance for future work on deforming glacier beds. Suggests that continuity issues are more important than flow law of till in affecting glacier behaviour. Different features influence till deformation and thus subglacial till transport. Site history has importance for till continuity and so glacier behaviour over long periods. |
Notes: | In: Deformation of glacial materials / Alex J. Maltman, Bryn Hubbard, Michael J. Hambrey, eds. |
Keywords: | 551.33 -- Glacial geology. 551.332 -- Glacial deposition. 551.333 -- Glacial deformation and glaciotectonic structures. 551.333.2 -- Glacial substrate, deformation structures in. E7 -- Glaciology: glacial geology and ice ages. |
