Record #155431:

The Pasterze glacier, Austria: an analogue of an extensional allochthon / Paul Herbst, Franz Neubauer.

Title: The Pasterze glacier, Austria: an analogue of an extensional allochthon / Paul Herbst, Franz Neubauer.
Author(s): Herbst, Paul.
Neubauer, Franz.
Date: 2000.
Publisher: London: Geological Society
In: Deformation of glacial materials. (2000.),
Abstract: Uses structures of Pasterze glacier, Austria to represent natural model of extensional allochthon formed over orogenic wedge, and model for raft tectonics at passive continental margins. Structures at lower part of glacier form close to melting point of ice, with brittle structures near to surface. Defines three flow units. Finds glacial flow more rapid in middle to upper sectors of glacier than along lateral, lower margins. Distinguishes three structural domains in lower, ablation-controlled sector of glacier, found also in Neogene Alpine-Carpathian system, and recent models and examples of passive continental margins.
