Biodiversity and biogeography of Antarctic copepods / Suzanne Razouls, Claude Razouls, Francis de Bovée.
Title: | Biodiversity and biogeography of Antarctic copepods / Suzanne Razouls, Claude Razouls, Francis de Bovée. |
Author(s): | Razouls, Suzanne. Razouls, Claude. Bovée, Francis de. |
Date: | 2000. |
In: | Antarctic Science. (2000.), Vol. 12(3) (2000) |
Abstract: | Reviews current understanding of Antarctic copepod biodiversity, using analysis of literature on census and distribution of copepod species in Southern Ocean to examine distribution of species by sector and with respect to Antarctic Convergence or continental shelf. Emphasises respective roles of Lagrangian displacement, hydrological features of Southern Ocean and general ocean currents to explain scattered distribution of species. Discusses population concept in zooplankton assemblages; definition of endemism for pelagic copepods; classification of copepods by their hydro-geographical zone; and biological/physiological constraints. |
