| Abstract: | Examines predation by brown skuas on blue petrels and thin-billed prions at breeding grounds in sub-Antarctic Iles Kerguelen, and influence of moonlight on behaviour of both skuas and petrels. Discusses capture rates; vocal activities of skuas and petrels; patterns of petrel colony attendance; breeding status of petrels; influence of lunar phase; increase in predation risk with higher light levels, and for non-breeding birds; and behavioural strategies adopted by prey to minimise predation risk. |
