| Abstract: | Presents data on laying date variation in relation to reproductive success for snow petrels breeding at Terre Adélie, Antarctica, in three consecutive years and examines various factors which may explain variability in laying date, including female body size and condition; individual laying period; colony size; mate fidelity; previous reproductive success; and duration of pre-laying exodus. Discusses possible link between hereditable small body size, early laying date, and breeding success. |
