Record #154845:

Composition, flow and development of two tongue-shaped rock glaciers in the permafrost of Svalbard / Ketil Isaksen, Rune Strand O\Zdegård, Trond Eiken, Johan Ludvig Sollid.

Title: Composition, flow and development of two tongue-shaped rock glaciers in the permafrost of Svalbard / Ketil Isaksen, Rune Strand O\Zdegård, Trond Eiken, Johan Ludvig Sollid.
Author(s): Isaksen, Ketil.
O\Zdegård, Rune Strand.
Eiken, Trond.
Sollid, Johan Ludvig.
Date: 2000.
In: Permafrost and Periglacial Processes. (2000.), Vol. 11(3) (2000)
Abstract: Employs data from air photo interpretation, DC resistivity soundings, ground penetrating radar and surface velocity measurements in studying inner structure and movement of tongue-shaped rock glaciers near Longyearbyen, Svalbard. Developing from start of Holocene, rock glaciers show layers of sediments supersaturated with ice alternating with layers of rockslide debris. Repeated mass movements account for aggradational ice layers becoming part of creeping rock glaciers, an important accumulation process.
