| Abstract: | Discusses methods commonly used to measure electrical properties of ice cores from polar regions. Includes electrical conductivity method (ECM) and dielectric profiling (DEP). Describes some datasets, ice properties that control values measured, and theoretical insights gained from ice core data, with examples from ice cores from Crete, Summit, GRIP, and Camp Century, Greenland; and from Dolleman Island, Antarctica. Discusses conduction mechanisms in polar ice and explains some findings using combination of Jaccard theory and grain boundary conduction. Considers possible new methods or improvements. |
