Bacterial survival in snow made from wastewater / Louise V. Parker, Melinda L. Yushak, C. James Martel, Charles M. Reynolds.
Title: | Bacterial survival in snow made from wastewater / Louise V. Parker, Melinda L. Yushak, C. James Martel, Charles M. Reynolds. |
Author(s): | Parker, Louise V. Yushak, Melinda L. Martel, C. James. Reynolds, Charles M. |
Date: | 2000. |
In: | CRREL Report. (2000.), ERDC/CRREL TR-00-9 (2000) |
Abstract: | Describes treatment of used water supply of community, removing pathogenic micro-organisms and toxic contaminants, by Snowfluent process that stores wastewater as snow over winter. When snow melts, contaminants are adsorbed into soil, and subsequently removed by plant uptake and bacterial degradation. Reviews literature and studies effect of freezing and thawing on bacteria. Coliform bacteria are affected more than others, but pathogenic bacteria survived snow-making process. |
