Abstract: Reviews technological advances applicable to measurement of ice gouges, describes field program testing performance of most promising new technologies and provides recommendations for future gouge measurement programmes. Concludes that multi-beam sonar used with side-scan sonar and DGPS equipment is considerable improvement over previous methods of quantifying ice-gouge characteristics.
