Record #153814:

Biogeography of Crustacea and Mollusca of the sub-Antarctic and Antarctic regions / Angelika Brandt, Katrin Linse, Ute Mühlenhardt-Siegel.

Title: Biogeography of Crustacea and Mollusca of the sub-Antarctic and Antarctic regions / Angelika Brandt, Katrin Linse, Ute Mühlenhardt-Siegel.
Author(s): Brandt, Angelika.
Linse, Katrin.
Mühlenhardt-Siegel, Ute.
Date: 1999.
Abstract: Analyses data on species distribution of Peracarida and Mollusca from Falkland Islands, South Georgia, Antarctica and Iles Kerguelen, and compares with 1994 data collected in Beagle Channel as part of Joint Magellan Victor Hensen research voyage in 1994. Magellanic gastropoda showed similarities with fauna of Falkland Islands and South Georgia, whereas bivalvia were more similar to Antarctic fauna. Only 10% of Antarctic isopoda were also found in Magellan region; Weddell Sea and East Antarctica shared most species of both cumacea and Isopoda, as did South Georgia and Antarctic Peninsula. Lowest similarities for isopoda were between Bellingshausen and Weddell Seas, and for cumacea between Magellan region and South Georgia. Discusses opening of Drake Passage as contributory factor to evolution of new species in Magellan region. In special issue Magellan-Antarctic: ecosystems that drifted apart.
