Record #153813:

On the biogeography and ecology of the Southern Ocean decapod fauna / Matthias Gorny.

Title: On the biogeography and ecology of the Southern Ocean decapod fauna / Matthias Gorny.
Author(s): Gorny, Matthias.
Date: 1999.
Abstract: Describes recent patterns of distribution of decapod crustaceans in higher latitudes of Southern Ocean along latitudinal gradient from South America towards Antarctica. Discusses relative importance of water temperature per se and extreme seasonal variations of annual food supply in determining production and productivity of Antarctic invertebrates; and restriction of Brachyura to shallow-water zones as one cause of absence of this group from Antarctic continental shelves after successive elimination of shallow-water fauna during glaciation of Southern Hemisphere. In special issue Magellan-Antarctic: ecosystems that drifted apart.
