Record #153805:

The megazoobenthos of the Scotia Arc islands / Ana Ramos.

Title: The megazoobenthos of the Scotia Arc islands / Ana Ramos.
Author(s): Ramos, Ana.
Date: 1999.
Abstract: Presents data on megabenthic epifauna composition and distribution in shelf waters around Scotia Arc islands, collected during Antarctic summer of 1986-1987. Samples were taken from 345 stations, including waters around Shag Rocks, South Georgia, South Sandwich Islands, South Orkney Islands, Elephant Island and South Shetland Islands. Long-lived suspension-feeder communities, demosponges and hexactinellids characteristic of Antarctic epibenthos stretch to eastern shelf of South Georgia. Discusses designation of zones with rich communities of sessile filter-feeders, long-lived sponges or reef formations of calcareous bryozoans or serpulids as Specially Protected Areas.
