| Abstract: | These Saami live in taiga. They long had contacts with mountain Saami and coastal farmers, increasingly from second half of 17th Cent., as Finnish- and Swedish-speaking settlers moved in. Author's thesis deals with forest Saami in Arvidsjaur and Uhmeå. In 18th Cent. forest Saami extended from Gällivare to Åsele, but today they are chiefly in old Arvidsjaur. Sections: From poor Lapp to Lapp servant - poverty and emigration from Pite and Ume Lappmarks 1650-1760 in light of 1748 Lapp Decree. Lapp Taxed Land Vuorbejaur 1650-1800 - pilot study.
