Abstract: Analyses vertical load capacity of floating sea-ice plate by fracture mechanics, with radial bending cracks following Rice-Levy nonlinear softening line spring model. Discusses numerical results and significance for size effect. Calculated size effect agrees with existing test data, contradicting Sodhi's plasticity solution.
