Transport of metals on sediment during the spring breakup of river ice / S. Beltaos, B.C. Burrell.

Title: Transport of metals on sediment during the spring breakup of river ice / S. Beltaos, B.C. Burrell.
Author(s): Beltaos, S.
Burrell, B. C.
Date: 1998.
Publisher: Rotterdam: A.A. Balkema
In: Ice in surface waters. Proceedings of 14th International Symposium on Ice, Potsdam, NY, USA, 27-31 July 1998. (1998.),
Abstract: Found transport of metals carried in suspended concentrations during breakup of ice on Saint John River (Maine, U.S.A. to New Brunswick, Canada) exceeded those occurring under open-water conditions of comparable discharge. Derived method to predict metal loads in terms of sediment loads through linear relationships. Concentrations may exceed levels of toxicity safe for humans, aquatic life and even agricultural processes.
