Measuring the frictional properties of particulate model ice / J.E. Zufelt, M.J. Fisken.

Title: Measuring the frictional properties of particulate model ice / J.E. Zufelt, M.J. Fisken.
Author(s): Zufelt, J. E.
Fisken, M. J.
Date: 1998.
Publisher: Rotterdam: A.A. Balkema
In: Ice in surface waters. Proceedings of 14th International Symposium on Ice, Potsdam, NY, USA, 27-31 July 1998. (1998.),
Abstract: One parameter, friction coefficient between ice and bank, is especially important in numerical modelling of ice-jam evolution, and probably changes from higher, static value to lower, dynamic one as ice accumulation fails and comes into motion. Describes tests measuring these static and dynamic coefficient of friction for plastic model ice material and compares results with current empirical formulae for granular materials. Suggests further tests.
