Record #153535:

Using small scale tests to predict full scale ice loads / Archie C. Churcher, John P. Fitzpatrick.

Title: Using small scale tests to predict full scale ice loads / Archie C. Churcher, John P. Fitzpatrick.
Author(s): Churcher, Archie C.
Fitzpatrick, John P.
Date: 1998.
Publisher: Rotterdam: A.A. Balkema
In: Ice in surface waters. Proceedings of 14th International Symposium on Ice, Potsdam, NY, USA, 27-31 July 1998. (1998.),
Abstract: Suggests how old sea-ice features showing imprint of original first-year-ice elements can be used in multi-element engineering model. Uses chain assemblies to develop mathematics. Notes that no small-scale testing programmes are designed to show strength distribution representing whole system. Uses hypothetical strength distribution in examples of various loads, and compares them with full-scale experience, suggesting model can give method of predicting full-scale loads from small-scale tests. Mathematics imply zero strength; examines implications for development and proposes method of gathering data for representative strength distributions.
