A layered flaking model of ice-structure interaction / T. Kärnä, K. Kamesaki, H. Tsukuda.

Title: A layered flaking model of ice-structure interaction / T. Kärnä, K. Kamesaki, H. Tsukuda.
Author(s): Kärnä, T.
Kamesaki, K.
Tsukuda, H.
Date: 1998.
Publisher: Rotterdam: A.A. Balkema
In: Ice in surface waters. Proceedings of 14th International Symposium on Ice, Potsdam, NY, USA, 27-31 July 1998. (1998.),
Abstract: Studies ice/structure interaction at transient and brittle ranges of ice failure, assuming failure by crushing and flaking of ice sheet. Seeks more information on flaking failure, finding horizontal cracks emanating from ice edge important. Energy dissipated at ice edge in incipient loading phase explains rapid decay of transient structural vibration. Gives new layered model to account for this and incorporates it into computer programme for dynamic ice/structure interaction. Compares predicted structural response with test result.
