Abstract: Considers compressive strength of fresh-water and S2 columnar ice under triaxial loading with loads applied proportionally perpendicular and parallel to long axis of grains. Both show strength increasing with confinement and equal dependence on direction of principal load, and level of confinement. When triaxial compression is applied, both fail through macroscopic faulting.
