Record #153525:

Grain boundary sliding and crack nucleation in ice / J. Weiss, E.M. Schulson.

Title: Grain boundary sliding and crack nucleation in ice / J. Weiss, E.M. Schulson.
Author(s): Weiss, J.
Schulson, E. M.
Date: 1998.
Publisher: Rotterdam: A.A. Balkema
In: Ice in surface waters. Proceedings of 14th International Symposium on Ice, Potsdam, NY, USA, 27-31 July 1998. (1998.),
Abstract: Using special geometry of columnar ice samples to study grain boundary sliding (GBS) in ice, finds GBS viscous process leads to decohesions along boundary plane. Cracks nucleate from these decohesions. Considers usual method of modelling this mechanism, ignoring kinematic sliding, inadequate.
