Is the growth rate of Icelandic cod (Gadus morhua L. ) food-limited? A comparison between pen-reared cod and wild cod living under similar thermal conditions / Björn Björnsson.
Title: | Is the growth rate of Icelandic cod (Gadus morhua L. ) food-limited? A comparison between pen-reared cod and wild cod living under similar thermal conditions / Björn Björnsson. |
Author(s): | Björnsson, Björn. |
Date: | 1999. |
In: | Rit Fiskideildar. (1999.), XVI (1999) |
Abstract: | Growth experiment in Stödhvarfjördhur, small fjord on east coast of Iceland, showed that cod can grow very fast, 17.1 cm/yr on average, if well and nutritiously fed. Wild cod from 5 fjords on east coast averaged 10.4-11.5 cm/yr. Temperatures were almost equal. Condition factors and liver indices were measured. Wild stock seem from results to be food-limited, with implications for fisheries management. |
