Record #153498:
The effect of nutritional status of Icelandic cod (Gadus morhua) on macroconstituents and trace elements in the liver / Gudhjón Atli Audhunsson.
Title: | The effect of nutritional status of Icelandic cod (Gadus morhua) on macroconstituents and trace elements in the liver / Gudhjón Atli Audhunsson. |
Author(s): | Audhunsson, Gudhjón Atli. |
Date: | 1999. |
In: | Rit Fiskideildar. (1999.), XVI (1999) |
Abstract: | Variation in size and composition of cod liver hampers its use for monitoring inorganic and organic contaminants in marine environment. Study aims to seek relationships in relatively clean waters. Data was collected from 1990-1998. Biological variables, moisture, fat, N, P, ash and minerals were measured, besides Zn, Cu, Fe, Mn, Cd, Pb, As and Se. Macrocomposition is defined reliably in terms of hepatosomatic index. Variation of lean fraction of liver explains 90% of variation of constituents, with interrelations simply linear. Models need not apply outside Icelandic waters, but if they do, lean fraction of liver of one year old cod may be suitable basis for spatial and temporal comparisons. |
