Late Dorset in High Arctic Greenland. Final report on the Gateway to Greenland project / Martin Appelt, Hans Christian Gulløv.
Title: | Late Dorset in High Arctic Greenland. Final report on the Gateway to Greenland project / Martin Appelt, Hans Christian Gulløv. |
Author(s): | Appelt, Martin. Gulløv, Hans Christian. |
Date: | 1999. |
Publisher: | Copenhagen: Danish Polar Center |
Abstract: | The three categories - resource use, migration and diffusion and cultural contacts - were studied by analysing zoo-archaeological material excavated from Late Dorset and early Thule dwellings, as well as other organic and non-organic materials, by comparative archaeological methods on short time frames, and by radiocarbon datings. Sites mainly used were in Inglefield Land, Smith Sound, supplemented by some data along Cape York peninsula. Until 1990s there was only one set of in-situ Late Dorset material in all Greenland. Holtved's material from Inglefield Land and some stray finds from West Greenland can now be added. |
