Abstract: Reports results of tests on blood and tissue samples taken from Hooker's sea lions during unusual mortality event on sub-Antarctic Auckland Islands in 1998. Describes procedures used in analysis for both known and unknown biotoxins, which showed no indications of toxins or toxicity. Tests on sea-slime material collected close to sea lion feeding grounds, and shellfish samples, were also negative. Includes suggested method for sampling shellfish and animal tissue.
