Record #153277:
Channel cross-sectional area changes and peak discharge calculations in the Gígjukvísl river during the November 1996 jökulhlaup, Skeidhársandur, Iceland / Andrew J. Russell, Óskar Knudsen, Judith K. Maizels, Philip M. Marren.
Title: | Channel cross-sectional area changes and peak discharge calculations in the Gígjukvísl river during the November 1996 jökulhlaup, Skeidhársandur, Iceland / Andrew J. Russell, Óskar Knudsen, Judith K. Maizels, Philip M. Marren. |
Author(s): | Russell, Andrew J. Knudsen, Óskar. Maizels, Judith K. Marren, Philip M. |
Date: | 1999. |
In: | Jökull. (1999.), Vol. 47 (1999) |
Abstract: | Fieldwork before and after hlaup is presented. River is thought to have carried 40-50% of total discharge. Peak discharge in river was 19 500 +/- 5 000 m³/sec. Calculated Manning's values show high resistance, in this case from ice blocks. This was largest ever flow through this river and impact was severe. |
Notes: | Jökull. Vol. 47 :45-58 (1999). |
Keywords: | 551.324.862 -- Jokulhaups. 556.51/.54 -- Rivers and streams. C -- Oceanography, hydrography and hydrology. (*3) -- Arctic regions. (*35) -- Iceland. |
