Record #153277:

Channel cross-sectional area changes and peak discharge calculations in the Gígjukvísl river during the November 1996 jökulhlaup, Skeidhársandur, Iceland / Andrew J. Russell, Óskar Knudsen, Judith K. Maizels, Philip M. Marren.

Title: Channel cross-sectional area changes and peak discharge calculations in the Gígjukvísl river during the November 1996 jökulhlaup, Skeidhársandur, Iceland / Andrew J. Russell, Óskar Knudsen, Judith K. Maizels, Philip M. Marren.
Author(s): Russell, Andrew J.
Knudsen, Óskar.
Maizels, Judith K.
Marren, Philip M.
Date: 1999.
In: Jökull. (1999.), Vol. 47 (1999)
Abstract: Fieldwork before and after hlaup is presented. River is thought to have carried 40-50% of total discharge. Peak discharge in river was 19 500 +/- 5 000 m³/sec. Calculated Manning's values show high resistance, in this case from ice blocks. This was largest ever flow through this river and impact was severe.
Notes:

Jökull. Vol. 47 :45-58 (1999).

(*35) -- Iceland.
