Abstract: | Describes Laurent-Christensen's years of service from 1923 in Aasiaat/Egedesminde and 1930-50 in Qaqortoq/Julianehåb. He then sought promotion in Aklavik, NWT, and later worked in Maryland TB hospital. Extracts from his surviving diaries illuminate dedicated life, much of which his sister Agnes shared. Both were greatly taken by Greenlanders. One very serious epidemic was of whooping-cough, another of rheumatic fever. After study visit to Europe in 1938 he was able to do more for TB patients, including BCG treatment. WW2, Red Cross work in Poland and visit of Knud Rasmussen to Qaqortoq, and eventual death in Denmark are described. |
