Record #153231:

Equilibrium and non-equilibrium models of livestock population dynamics in pastoral Africa: their relevance to Arctic grazing systems / R. Behnke.

Title: Equilibrium and non-equilibrium models of livestock population dynamics in pastoral Africa: their relevance to Arctic grazing systems / R. Behnke.
Author(s): Behnke, R.
Date: 1999.
In: Rangifer. (1999.), Vol. 20(2-3) (1999)
Abstract: Correct stocking rate may be determined if rainfall is reliable, but in semi-arid Africa it is more useful to adjust stocking rates rapidly to track sudden changes in feed. In northern latitudes, non-equilibrium models developed for semi-arid environments do not capture complexity of plant- herbivore dynamics dependant on rain, snow cover and temperature on mountains and tundras where reindeer are found.
