| Abstract: | Deals with crevasse formation from historical point of view; and with problem of crevasse orientation relative to principal stress or strain rate, and reports strike-slip motion, with crevasse walls moving parallel to each other. Models suggest opening mode combines with shearing mode in crevasse formation so crevasse orientation may differ by 20° from optimum. Shearing motion may act over greater depths. |
