Title: Sami subsistence activities - spatial aspects and structuration / Elina Helander.
Author(s): Helander, Elina.
Date: 1999.
In: Acta Borealia. (1999.), Vol. 16(2) (1999)
Abstract: Certain concepts are used to describe spatial organisation of Saami ptarmigan trapping and siida, extracted from author's study of four villages in eastern Finnmark. She also studied fishing in Tana river and in lakes, reindeer herding and gathering cloudberries. Words used to describe notions of locality include báiki, guovlu, sadji, eana, gárdun-eatnamat and meabcci. Trapping ptarmigan is not longer essential, but partnerships, use of land and equipment are still in old style.
