Abstract: Outlines taxonomic and nomenclatural history of Platydictya Berk., considered to be member of Hypnaceae. Evaluates Platydictya densissima, demonstrating that species is identical to holarctic bipolar disjunct Platydictya jungermannioides (Brid.) Crum, locally frequent in Maritime Antarctica from South Orkneys to Alexander Island. Discusses ecological requirements of species in Antarctica.
