Abstract: | Investigates solute chemistry of clear basal ice facies from Taylor and Wright valleys, McMurdo Dry Valleys, Antarctica. Finds three groups, one which has solute concentrations similar to englacial ice, one which has concentrations significantly greater then englacial ice and one sample with solute concentration 10 times greater than adjacent englacial ice. Concludes water chemistry alone is not reliable indicator of origin of clear basal ice. In special issue: Glaciers of the Southern Hemisphere. |
