Record #152726:

A mass balance model that uses low-altitude meteorological observations and the area-altitude distribution of a glacier / Wendell V. Tangborn.

Title: A mass balance model that uses low-altitude meteorological observations and the area-altitude distribution of a glacier / Wendell V. Tangborn.
Author(s): Tangborn, Wendell V.
Date: 1999.
In: Geografiska Annaler. Series A. Physical Geography. (1999.), Vol. 81A(4) (1999)
Abstract: In special issue on Methods of Mass Balance Measurements and Modelling. Presents glacier mass-balance model requiring only low-altitude precipitation and temperature observations and glacier's area-altitude distribution as alternative to direct field measurements. Model relies on internal consistency of mass balance variables generated by simulation using low-altitude weather data. Compares independently produced simulation results for South Cascade Glacier, WA, USA, 1959-96 to balances measured at glacier. Finds agreement between annual balances for individual years is fair and between long-term volume changes measured by geodetic method is excellent.
