| Abstract: | In special issue on Methods of Mass Balance Measurements and Modelling. Summarises and evaluates methods used to determine mass balance of Hintereisferner and other glaciers in Tyrolean Alps since 1952. Presents two models for calibration of energy and mass balance. Geodetic method gives results consistent with glaciological method. Balance velocity calculated from recent ice-thickness soundings and accumulation measurements is significantly less than observed velocity. |
