Abstract: Broad survey covers history of Barents Region, effect of WW2 on Swedish treatment of Finnish refugees, R.Lassinanti's efforts on behalf of Torne Valley Finns, sundry conferences set up by Palme Center and others, broadening concept of security to includ "soft" security, however defined, continuing Russian perception of NATO, extension of security notion to "civic", with "protection" from deprivations as well as from positive ills, position of Saami, religious spectrum from Orthodoxy to Laestadianism, North Calotte twinnings, with Haparanda-Tornio as strongest, Rovaniemi professorship of Love Research (partly linked to shortage of women in rural areas), and environmental matters.
