Abstract: | In special issue on Methods of Mass Balance Measurements and Modelling. Calculates long-term mass changes of Blue Glacier, USA from changes of surface altitude derived from topographic maps and laser altimetry, 1939-97. Mass has changed by less than 7 m (water equivalent) over 56 year period. Discusses discrepancies between calculated and field measurements. Mass balance of Blue Glacier was positive to mid-1970s, negative since, following estimation of snowfall, and climate trends. |
