Abstract: Special section consisting of 21 papers reporting results of POLARIS research programme. Mission of programme was to investigate photochemical and transport processes causing summer polar decreases in stratospheric ozone. Programme primarily utilized NASA ER-2 high-altitude aircraft and balloon platforms while based in Fairbanks, Alaska. Additional data obtained with ground-based instruments, satellites, and sondes.
