| Abstract: | Case was brought in Dec. 1996 on behalf of 598 individuals, seeking: 1. recognition of their right to live in Uummannaq/Dundas in Thule Ditrict; 2. recognition of right to travel, stop, hunt and trap in whole district; 3. payment of Kr 25 000 000 with interest; 4. further payments to individuals. Basis for claims was setting up of Thule Air Base in 1951 and forced evacuation of population from Uummannaq in 1953. Witness accounts are given, character of case is explained, and accepted facts about base and evacuation are noted. The four claims are explained in light of current legal rights. Decision and compensation awarded are described. |
