Record #152565:
Glacio-meteorological investigations on Vatnajökull, Iceland, summer 1996: an overview / Johannes Oerlemans, and 7 others.
Title: | Glacio-meteorological investigations on Vatnajökull, Iceland, summer 1996: an overview / Johannes Oerlemans, and 7 others. |
Author(s): | Oerlemans, Johannes. |
Date: | 1999. |
Abstract: | Gives overview of glaciometeorological experiment carried out in melt season 1996 on Vatnajökull, Iceland, to understand how energy used in melting of snow and ice is delivered to surface. Near surface, flow is mostly katabatic, only disappearing in melt zone with intense storms. Global radiation increases significantly with altitude. Surface albedo varies enormously in space and time. Concludes that radiation provides two-thirds of melt energy and turbulent exchange of heat one-third, although higher on glacier turbulent exchange has less significance. |
