Abstract: | Describes interviewee's Beitir business, which started in garage with wife and now sells baiting equipment and fishing line reels for all sizes of boat. Recent openings have come in Faroes after slow start and in East Greenland. Ólafsson went to train at Kummiuut, Ammassalik, and, as engineer, was roped in to sort out mess in new freezery. He was asked to stay for 5 months, and found way of life very interesting. Settlement had 450 people and 1200 dogs. Following collapse of Canadian cod fishery, his equipment should sell well among small boat owners there. |
